Joe Was Here, 2004, performance, 10 archival inkjet prints, 21.6 x 28 cm each
From ancient cave painters to Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Marriage Portrait to contemporary graffiti writers, the desire to leave a mark upon the world is one of the strongest motivations for human creativity. This desire is often pursued through an effort to leave a permanent mark. Joe Was Here was performed in order to remind us that every mundane activity we perform is an opportunity to leave a trace, however fleeting.
